On March 10, 2017, Gunnison’s Census Bureau customers were awarded the Bronze Medal Award for the Geographic Update Partnership Software (GUPS) Project. Gunnison supported the GUPS project by developing and testing GUPS, as well as creating end user training materials. GUPS is an innovative software application that enables tribal, state, and local governments to easily view and edit all of the Census Bureau’s spatial, address, and attribute data for several different 2020 Census geographic partnership programs. The establishment of core GIS functionality along with customized individual program interfaces provides a systematic methodology to participate in several Census Bureau programs, and reduces the effort for partner participation.

The Bronze Medal Award is the highest honorary recognition awarded by the U.S. Census Bureau. The award recognizes work that has resulted in more effective and efficient management systems, as well as the demonstration of unusual initiative or creative ability in the development and improvement of methods and procedures. It is given also for significant contributions affecting major programs within the U.S. Census Bureau and superior performance of assigned tasks.
