Gunnison Consulting Group Fields Eight systems for the Upcoming Decennial Census.

Alexandria, VA— March 13, 2020With just 13 business days to Census Day (April 1st) for the 2020 Census, Gunnison Consulting Group, Inc. of Alexandria, Virginia proudly reveals it is playing a significant role in helping the U.S. “Shape Its Future,” fielding eight systems for the U.S. Census Bureau.

The company’s recently appointed CEO, Gil Dussek stated, “Two of the systems we developed were already exercised thoroughly for Address Canvassing in Fall 2019 for the Decennial Census supporting 60,000 users; several more will be live at various times over the course of the census.”

Unique and Complex Implementations

Several of the systems developed for 2020 by Gunnison’s teams include:

  • A modern address canvassing geographic system allowing field representatives (FRs) to confirm, add or delete addresses from the national profile (the famous MAF/TIGER database). The system operates even when in a disconnected state.
  • A mobile case management system which helps field workers find, organize, schedule and complete their work assignments.
  • A complex matching system that selects quality control samples, validates production interview data against other sources, and provides a tool for knowledgeable staff to compare the production interview data against re-interview data.
  • The statistical tabulation system used to calculate all detailed, then aggregated data describing all levels of geography and social and demographic characteristics across the U.S.

2020 Census Criticality

As only one of two national level and mandatory demographic surveys the nation performs, the Decennial Census is a gold standard of data on the U.S. population. This includes the entire population, citizens and non-citizens alike, estimated to total over 330M. The other gold standard is the American Community Survey (the former Decennial “Long Form”), which Gunnison has also supported for over a decade. The U.S. is one of the few countries in the world that still conducts a complete count of the population, as required by the Constitution.

Census statistics are used to determine the number of seats each state holds in the U.S. House of Representatives and informs how billions of dollars in federal funds will be allocated by state, local and federal lawmakers annually for the next 10 years.
